Reaping the rewards
So by this time of year your pond should be bursting to life. Plants will have reared their heads from the winter slumber, animals will also be much more active with this warmer weather we have.
You should certainly be sitting beside your slice of nature and starting to reap the benefits of living the aquascape lifestyle. But, what jobs can you do to help your pond be in tip top health?
- First and foremost is to check the pond for seeds, blossom and any other spring time items that may have found their way into your pond. If you have a build up of any of these take a net and remove it, remember to leave it on the side for those important beasts and bugs to climb back into your pond.
- As the warmer months arrive algae will too. Algae starts to wake up at this time of year and may cause issues if left unchecked. Use a net or brush to remove any excess algae, again leave it on the side to make sure the animals can crawl back into the pond.
- If you have had any of the above in your pond it will be well worth checking that your pump isn’t clogged in anyway. Removing debris from around your pump will reduce waste, improve flow and help your pump last longer.
- Some plants may have already flowered in your pond. If this is the case be sure to dead head them, this stops the dead plant dropping into your pond and decaying causing more waste and excess nutrients. It also may encourage a second show of flowers which is always a bonus.
If you’re still struggling to maintain clean water in your pond why not get us to install an Aquascape Autodoser? Seen below, the Autodoser drip feeds all the liquid your pond needs to thrive. This means that you can sit back, relax and not worry about which treatment you need to measure out to pour into your pond. Click the link below to check out our FAQ on the Aquascape Autodoser.
Now you’ve done the hard work we thought we would show you some of the things we’ve seen and been up to recently.
We’ve seen some amazing creatures whilst out maintaining our customers ponds recently. Aside from many frogs, tadpoles and newts these two below are certainly a rarer sight to behold.
To the left we have a juvenile grass snake who was using the shallows in one of our still water ponds to hunt for its lunch. It is one of the biggest honours that one of our ponds can attract and provide habitat for such a beautiful animal.
On the right the less beautiful but equally as awesome great diving beetle larvae. As above this chap was using one of our ponds to call home and use as a hunting ground, until he transforms into the round bodied diving beetle we all love to see.

An exciting new group on Facebook
If social media is your thing make sure you check out the new Facebook group from Aquascape called Living the Aquascape Lifestyle. It’s full of people from all over the world who live the Aquascape lifestyle, posting photos of their own aquatic paradises where they relax and unwind. We absolutely love scrolling through all the stunning photos of ponds and features on the page, you never know you may get a bit of inspiration for your next garden project.
Before we sign off, we’re slowly getting back into the real world, maintaining customers’ features and ponds and still taking bookings for later on in the year. Obviously all of this is done whilst maintaining social distancing.
Over the next few weeks we hope to start a few building projects government permitting, we have put lots of new measures in place to create a safe working environment for our staff and customers.
We look forward to getting back out into the field and creating stunning works of art for you to enjoy in your own back gardens.
Stay safe and see you all soon.
